Tehran Vahdat Hall is one of the most equipped and largest opera, music and theater halls in Iran, which was established in 1967 under the name of the famous Iranian poet, Abu Abdullah Roudaki, as Roudaki Hall. The hall was opened in the presence of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and Farah Pahlavi and it is still an active and important hall in Tehran. Vahdat Hall was a multi-purpose hall that was built on the initiative of Farah Pahlavi to perform music, ballet, and opera concerts, and Iranian female singer, Simin Ghanem, performed My Man Symphony on the opening day of this complex.
Preparations for the construction of this hall were provided in 1957 and it lasted 10 years, due to the special design of construction operations. The building was designed by Eugenia Aftandelias, based on the Vienna Opera House. Tehran Vahdat Hall has two performance halls, which were renamed after the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, at the same time with the Week of Unity and the celebration of the birth of the Prophet of Islam. Therefore, the large hall was called Vahdat Hall and the small one was named Roudaki Hall. The total area of the building is 21,000 square meters, including seven floors and basements. The infrastructure covers an area of about 15,000 square meters. The Vahdat Hall building has a ground floor, three floors with a horseshoe-shaped balcony that can accommodate a total of 740 spectators. The building also includes two basements, a concert hall and an office building. The interior of the building is plastered in front of each balcony from the inside, in the style of Achaemenid congresses.
The main stage of Vahdat Hall is 12 meters wide and has three moving scenes with dimensions of 12 by four with a diameter of 10 meters. These scenes can rotate and move up and down, so that they move down to one-meter depth and four meters up. From behind the main scene, seven doors open to rooms for rehearsals, face painting, changing room and technical affairs. Inside the main hall, there are three levels of balconies, the center of the first and second balconies is a special place and the center of the third hall is the location of the light and sound control room. The hall is illuminated by 63 lights embedded in three rows of balcony walls. In addition, a huge crystal chandelier with a diameter of seven meters is installed at a height of 19 meters from the floor, which contributes to the lighting. Vahdat Hall has two main screens and is equipped with a fireproof iron curtain system.
The Vahdat Hall building has two main entrances; the north entrance for people to enter and the east entrance for the famous characters. The main entrance of Vahdat Hall is located on Ostad Shahriyar Street, and this entrance, by retreating from Hafez Street and being separated by the green space, has diverted itself from the path of cars. To access this hall, it is enough to know that it is located somewhere between the two metro stations of Theater-e Shahr and Ferdowsi Square (on Tehran Metro Line 4), which is closer to the first one. By getting off at this station, it is enough to move to the east side of the student park (Park-e Daneshjoo). Also, the BRT bus lines Azadi-Tehranpars, Railway-Tajrish and Railway-Parkway at Valiasr crossroads station lead us to the previous route. By going to Vahdat Hall, you can see other sights of this part of Tehran, including Daneshjoo Park, Theater-e Shahr, cotton clothing stores, book market and various cafes.
