Mian Dasht Wildlife Refuge is located in steppe and semi-desert areas, about 10 kilometers southeast of Jajarm city in North Khorasan Province. Covering approximately 85,000 hectares, this area has been under environmental protection since 1973 and is considered one of the best habitats for around 3,500 Persian fallow deer and Asiatic cheetahs in the country. Mian Dasht, with its desert and semi-desert climate, is one of the richest steppe habitats in the country, hosting a variety of flora and fauna. The permanent Kalshur River flows through the heart of Mian Dasht in a northeast-southwest direction.
Common foxes, hares, porcupines, bustards, wild sheep, wolves, gazelles, wild goats, Persian leopards, golden eagles, and many more are among the wildlife species found in the Mian Dasht area. While its plant cover consists mainly of halophytic plants such as tamarisk, alhagi, ephedra, and sagebrush.
Mian Dasht in Jajarm is considered one of the most unique areas in the country in terms of wildlife and ecotourism attractions, with its pristine desert areas and unique wildlife, especially the Asiatic cheetah, attracting many tourists to the protected area of Mian Dasht.
